How to get to Newcastle Community Green Festival on foot, bike, bus, coach, train or car:

Leazes Park is located next to St James Park (home of Newcastle United Football Club). The imposing stadium can be seen from any part of the Newcastle City Centre and from as far away as across the River Tyne.
It is about 3 minutes walk from the Haymarket Metro Station, the Eldon Bus Station, as well as Central Bus Station, all within the heart of the City Centre.

From the Central Train Station it is about 15 minutes walk

The park is bounded to the northeast by Richardson Road on which one of the entrances to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) is located. Barrack Road runs on the western boundary of the park.
Parking is limited close to the park but there are numerous car parks in and around the City Centre and each is very well sign-posted with electronic signs indicating the number of available parking spaces.

  • DisabledGo provide comprehensive information about access to Leazes Park.
  • Sustrans is another excellent organisation which provides a tailor-made information and support service called Travel Smart which helps people to plan journeys by foot, bike or public transport.
  • If the journey you need to make to get to the Festival is outside the city, Transport Direct may be able to help. This site is a Government run scheme containing a searchable public-transport route-finder database and live travel information.
  • Another similar Government web site is Direct Gov. This website has a journey planner database which can help you plan your journey by the quickest route via public transport and avoiding road works. The journey planner also includes a section for travellers with disabilities.
  • A third option is to use the Traveline National Portal which holds a directory containing public transport information throughout the UK provided by local authorities and bus operators.
  • Nexus LinkUp is a bus service that you book like a taxi and is available to everyone in Tyne and Wear. LinkUp provides journeys at times when regular services are not operating or where direct services are not available. Nexus has created 16 areas throughout Tyne and Wear. Passengers must call to book LinkUp for any journey that is within their operating area.
  • Nexus TaxiLink is a door to door service, using accessible taxis. The service has to be booked in advance. To qualify for the TaxiLink you will have to be in receipt of one of the following:
    • High Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance
    • Attendance Allowance; or are
    • Registered as severely visually impaired or blind.

Liftshare and Car Share Forum provide a car share service for longer journeys.

In order to promote greener forms of transport and to reduce the environmental impact of the Festival, visitors are encouraged to use green forms of transport. We are therefore unable to provide any vehicle parking on site to visitors.

However, there will be a limited number of parking spaces to Blue Badge holders.

Civil and military jet pollution is responsible for 10% of the earth's global warming . So, from an environmental perspective, its best to try to avoid flying.  However, if it is absolutely necessary for you to fly, then fly during the day.  Research has shown that night flights (whilst only representing a quarter of air traffic) are responsible for generating 60-80% of air flight emissions.
