Low Impact Living and Renewable Energy Area
Another newcomer to the Festival will be our Low Impact Living and Renewable Energy Area. The nationally acclaimed Low Impact Living Initiative will be coming to Newcastle for the first time with their road-show demonstrating natural insulation products and renewable energy systems and for those who want to buy some of the products on show there’ll be stalls selling solar panels, wind turbines, ground and air source heating systems, and green electricity.
Featuring workshops on how to make wind turbines, solar thermal panels, a green living roof and solar powered toy cars there’ll be plenty to do.

What’ll be on

    Stalls and displays selling:

  • Natural insulation – shredded paper, jute, shredded clothes, wool, hemp etc
  • Draft proofing
  • Low Impact Living Initiative display
  • Wind turbines
  • Solar thermal
  • Solar voltaic
  • Air source heating
  • Ground source heating
  • Good Energy, Green Energy etc
  • Energy saving devices (boilers, thermostats, reflectors, draft proofing)
  • Low energy or green energy goods and offering advice on energy ratings of appliances etc (solar doorbells to try out etc)

    Workshops on:

  • Assessing your own carbon footprint and sources of info / advice
  • Making wind turbines
  • Making solar thermal panels
  • Making a bike powered generator
  • Making a green living roof
  • Making solar powered radio controlled mini cars – followed by car race

It takes far more energy to make a battery than the energy that it produces so it’s best not to buy battery powered items.  Alternatively you could try wind-up, solar or water powered goods or buy mains powered electrical products.
